Strawberry Pie
only with you, I’d share
a slice of strawberry pie
still frozen solid, the syrup acidified,
the dough over-baked and cracked dry
I’d still go through it together,
I will pinch my nose and comply
I’ll be by your side until the
day either one of us may die
I’ll stand up for you when I
catch someone who’s in a lie
and I’ll find the right words
to use when you’re tongue tied
I’ll validate your feelings and assure
you that their actions are not justified
I’ll always listen out for your voice in
the open in case I hear your battlecry
I’ll stare back harder if someone
decides to give you their evil eye
together, we’ll fortify
with my sword ready to
be drawn like a samurai
I’ll fight until the end for you
and ask for truce so we’ll unify
and if you’re scared at night, I’ll be
there to sing you to sleep with a lullaby
if you’re feeling not like yourself
sometimes, I’ll remind you that
you’re beautiful and one of a kind
just like the wings to a butterfly
we’ll make it through like we
always do, someway we'll get by
