Overboard
I had a dream that
I joined the Navy,
promised good fortunes
of stability and safety
as I was ascending
towards the deck,
I fell overboard into the
ocean and broke my wrist
I swam to save my life, hoping
I make it back to the ship
I tried to grab onto a rope,
but my hand couldn't grip
freezing cold in the water
with rain and foggy mist
and although I was deathly
exhausted, I had to persist,
my moral compass is
out there floating adrift
the dock that met with
the boat broke in half
memories flashed from before
I was sent overseas to the draft
I awoke without knowing
what had happened,
so I'll treat it as a lesson
never to take life for granted
because the warship always
goes down with its captain
