Perspectives

one voice is

masculine and deep,

telling me to

keep my mouth shut

the one who

battles him

is a free spirited

feminine,

telling me

I must use

my voice

and stand up

two of them sound like

innocent children

needing to

fall asleep

because it’s past

their bedtime,

but how could

they sleep when

their imagination

wraps storybooks

together in

perfect rhyme

one of them is

a barking dog,

calling out from

the backyard

wondering if

there’s another

kind like him

on the other side

he lays by the

fence all day long,

whimpering from

his cage labeled “Clyde”

there’s a

teenage girl,

confused about

who she is,

she takes

advice from

an online

personality quiz

there’s an elder man,

wise and concise,

he’d tell you

to think fast,

but always

think twice

there’s one who

regrets everything,

and the one who

wouldn’t change anything

these voices

are your

changes in

perspective,

they make up who

you are as a collective,

some of these voices

can be rather bizarre,

but listen to

them all,

they each have

their own memoir
