Like Smoke

like smoke, we cascade  and we float we’re quiet with  very  few words we’ve spoke every breath  dances  with grace and fills a white hue  in every space we disintegrate into  billowing whirlpools dispersing into  microscopic  particles with chemicals that  you couldn't resist breaking down  under pressure, holding down   an addict - Leah Rae

Notice

how you light  up in the city and close your eyes  with humbled feelings when you’re listening  to the birds in the park and when you hum  to the tune of a harp they will notice the way your bones move how they perfectly fall into  the crevices of a rigged groove and when you're not speaking,  they'll see  t he way  you  tilt your head,  lost in your thoughts and  think curiously - Leah Rae

Eight Eyes

I feel trapped in  sticky syrupy molasses stuck trying to  release from  the cobwebs these  bugs are trapped in slowly etching a path  to crawl away from  the spider before  it catches with a look into  their eight eyes,  I’d be eaten alive  by their scare tactics someday, we will be  nothing but ashes nothing but history  made as the time passes and along the way, you meet people that  may hold on tightly  like  how a padlock latches, but to open  up the gates, it takes only one  key that matches hopefully,  I’ll  escape  my  downfall before  the web attaches - Leah Rae

Balcony

skyscraper  building tall don't look down, I fear that I may fall eyes shining brighter than the window panes gazing glares  at a  city  burning of flames infiltrate your afternoon anguish for breakfast, strawberry  milk and a cheese danish hotel room vending machines, candy bars cookies and cream overlooking the view from a balcony - Leah Rae

Ice Pack

white colored roses ice cold skin feels frozen I heal like  an ice pack numbing your wounds, staying awake with you What’s the sign  of the moon? we scar like  scratches and absorb energy  like paper napkins dripping our tears  like they’re icicles swollen knees from  f alling off your bicycle we’re fluid like water,  but like an ice pack, we'll melt if it  gets any hotter - Leah Rae

The Swallow Nest

the birds chipped away  an abandoned hive from  pests and settled  their home into  a swallow nest  perhaps there is a reason  I'm here with this ink  embedded  into my skin I become more hopeful  as I’m watching  the  swallow  mothering her kin bring back something  for them to eat a worm or  a bug,  even something  deserted on the concrete I can't wait until the day I see the baby swallows fly, but are they ready  to leave  their nest  and tell their  family goodbye? - Leah Rae

Your Highness

your highness, a pure sagittarius that wears a white  dress  and circles  around the  pond in between the afternoon and dawn your highness, a queen without a crown not asking for anyone to bow down she’s there in  times of need she wants everyone in  this world to be set free your highness, sitting lonesome on her perch watching down the clouds,  I try to listen for her words you’re not here anymore,  but I can feel that you’re around you straighten up my back  when my head is drooping down your highness, I beg that this  won’t be the end I know that someday I shall  meet you another way again for now, I will sit and  watch the grass dance I wish cancer didn’t exist,  I wish you had a second chance - Leah Rae

Pisces Moon

tears are  falling down  like  raindrops under  the pisces moon hearing her voice  on  the phone  made my  heart drop,  here comes  the monsoon What would I do  if her heart stops? drunk on Jameson  and the sweet aroma of blueberries I miss you when  you’re not next to me being with you  helps me to sleep when it’s 3 am and  I roll over all the covers can’t decide if I need  my space or whether I need a warm  body to smother with my ice cold  hands and ice blue face my knuckles on  your  back, your spine I trace the phone rings,  I’ll be over soon you’re my  ride or die  for everything  we’ve been through you’re perfect in  every  way, shape, and form please stay  alive for me,  we will survive  this storm - Leah Rae

Bottom of the Sea

I’ve been beat up i n  the ocean and washed up  like a fossilized shell sent away like a  message in a bottle  with a note written,  "I wish you well.” collected by a kid  who took me home  and kept me safe in  a small wooden box carved with, “belongs to”  on the front and  secured by  a lock Is the earth becoming  the ocean floor? the skyscrapers all  collapse and earthquakes  are trembling  more I’m surrounded by coral reefs and fish  that are  looking at me if I’m not mistaken, I must be at the  bottom of  the sea - Leah Rae

Young Lady

young lady,  you  have  a  short temper I'm not denying that  I can be fiery at times ,  but I won't back  down and surrender I'm a force of nature,  the hurricane's center young lady,  you’re  one  hell  of a heart ripper putting people  in their place,  not afraid to  pull the trigger  I wasn't the one who  fit into the glass slipper young  lady,  Can  you  pass  a math class? Did  you  file your taxes? it's  time to put  down  the bottled milk glass you're  not  a  baby anymore although others  like  to call you that - Leah Rae

Bed of Needles

the grass  will be green all throughout  the spring and shrivel into  straw by summer it’s like walking  on a bed of needles, but the pain isn’t  so  bad that it’d be lethal spikes and prickles  to the callus of my feet the grass that  was once  green  has since turned  into wheat I've  been watering  my dead plants hoping that  they'd come back and bloom like  they  have before I fill the pitcher and  watch the droplets pour down into succulents and  a small dandelion patch avoiding the weeds and  stems that are detached I want it to be like  how it used to, I reminisce about  the day I first met you we continue to extend  our roots and grow I'll return next season, becoming a dark rose - Leah Rae
